our island (so big it’s got its own zipcode) and countertop is verde peacock granite, which looks darker in the kitchen than it does in this image, and with less variation, in fact it looks almost black in our kitchen.

and I found this tile: Ebony Iridescent – Artifacts 1 x 1 Recycled Glass Tile (which he says looks like an oil spill because of the iridescence)  that I love because it has the dark grey/black of the countertop and the blue of the walls (which will mostly but not all be covered by tile but still)… it changes depending on the light in the kitchen.. during the brightest part of the day it’s a little disco-ball like, but in the afternoon/evening it’s more subtle

but I don’t really want a disco ball in my kitchen so what I’m thinking is I use some of it along with, I dunno, a gray or something more subtle.. ?

So we really need a backsplash..

behind the cooktop where the paint (which was gorgeous blue) is slowly getting grease splotchy

and (he says) at last a couple inches at the bottom of the coffee bar wall ( to the right front of the kitchen)

and (I think) under the kitchen window (where I splash when washing dishes)

but I don’t want boring & conservative!
but I’m married to an engineer.

you see the dilemma…

I thought it would be fun to join a CSA so I found Millican Farms, owned and operated by Steve and Tanya, and signed up for a half-share. They deliver a box of their current crop to my door every Tuesday, which is great!

I sometimes don’t know what I’ve been delivered, and I oftentimes don’t know how to cook whatever it is, which means it’s not saving time, at least not this first time around. But apparently I’m not the only one who doesn’t know, because after the first delivery Steve and Tanya started labeling the herbs (I could tell cilantro and basil but I didn’t recognize the dill by smell) and posting recipes for those of us who don’t know what to do with green tomatoes or mustard greens.

I’ve also ordered beef and eggs from them which I pay a little more for and it gets delivered to my door. I love getting things delivered, it’s like magic!

I did some great things with the squash, like soup. Radishes were a challenge, although they were  tasty sliced thin and roasted with evoo and sea salt. I’m finding creative uses of cauliflower, which there’s been a lot of lately. The tomatoes have been great. Especially the tiny grape ones, we’ve put them in salads, and made great pasta sauce with them and used them along with farm fresh cilantro for a kick butt pico. But the greens, I’m trying different recipes but there have been a lot of greens, and I don’t love them, and truth be told I’m a little scared of them.  Maybe I should’ve signed up in the warmer months to get fruit. That I know what to do with!

It’s never this clean though!!

We put down sod and are desperately trying to keep it alive in the second driest summer on record.

The master bath is the best room in the house, and I’ve already taken baths. Wonderful! I’m not sure if we’ll ever get rid of all the boxes… but the kitchen looks pretty good too. The boys did a great job on the pergo.

the baseboards and crown look really good if I say so myself…

the kitchen cabinets are darker than I’d intended (originally I wanted white but K wanted stained!) but they’re growing on me. They do look better without plastic on them…

it was crazy to see the painters spray everything, including the stain on the cabinets. it’s quite an efficient way to paint though…

the window in the master looks nice with the white trim. but the ladders don’t add much to the look…

we’ve got cabinets and doors- oh my!!

kitchen cabinets

painters and trim guys are lined up and we’re trying to get countertops ordered…..

master

master’s looking good! I hate to ask… who’s gonna trim?
